Programming and using these
features
☞
Warning: Programming and using the features de-
scribed in this chapter includes information that
may require a greater understanding of insulin pump
therapy and should not be attempted without help
from your healthcare provider.
☞
Warning: Programming many of these settings can only
occur after testing and fine-tuning so that you get the
best possible results from insulin pump therapy. You
should receive specific training on programming and
using the pump. Please carefully read all instruc-
tions and talk to your healthcare provider.
Correction Bolus
The Correction Bolus is designed to lower a high BG
level. You determine where the correction bolus ap-
pears; in the main menu, as part of your meal bolus,
both, or neither. You also select how you measure your
blood glucose (in the USA, blood glucose is generally
measured in mg/dl; outside the USA, blood glucose is
generally measured in mmol/L).
Correction Bolus / 1 unit decreases BG
This setting is the amount your blood glucose drops for
each unit of insulin delivered.
☞
Warning: Talk to your healthcare provider to deter-
mine your correction bolus factor.
Duration of insulin action
It takes your body a certain amount of time to fully use
an insulin bolus. This setting looks at previously deliv-
ered boluses and determines, based on the amount of
time you have programmed here, if any of that previous
bolus is still actively affecting your BG level.
☞
Warning: Talk to your healthcare provider to deter-
mine your duration of insulin action.
